Once known an Portland Pointe this fabulous town of only 1.2 square miles is centered around the town harbour, with a backdrop of Mount Mitchell and Victorian mansions surveying the sea. Some of these homes were occupied by the most wealthy families who enjoyed the Summers here. The Strauss family of A & S and Macy's department store was one. The active historical society regularily has open house tours and events. The downtown area leading to the harbor has great restaurants, shops and a wonderful movie thearter.
